This is England actress Vicky McClure wins TV Bafta

NOTTINGHAM actress Vicky McClure has won a TV Bafta for her role as Lol in This is England '86.

The 28-year-old picked up the Leading Actress prize at last night's Philips British Academy Television Awards 2011.

The Channel 4 series updated the lives of the characters from Shane Meadows' acclaimed film This Is England.

"This is what I dreamed of since I can remember," McClure said. "I can't believe this is happening."

She has already picked up the same prize at the Royal Television Society programme awards earlier this year.

She praised Meadows, saying: "He is without doubt the best director to work with – he gives you the freedom. It's not easy but it's worth it."

McClure was a member of the Junior Television Workshop, in Lenton Lane, Nottingham which also nurtured Samantha Morton.

In 2007 she told the Post: "Shane has a big connection with Nottingham and he likes to be able to take people from here.

"The quality of material and the talent that has come out of a basement in Notts is unbelievable.

"The kids go down there and they can just express themselves."
