'Muscle' in house raid locked up

A BURGLAR who was used as "muscle" on a job has been jailed for 18 months.

Leon Lawrence was involved in a burglary at a ground-floor flat in Tennyson Street, Radford, on December 7, with two other people.

A garden fence was used to break a window and a flat-screen television ripped from the wall in the property, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

Neighbours contacted police when they saw someone fleeing from the garden.

They then discovered the tenant's flat-screen television abandoned. It was recovered by police and analysts discovered Lawrence's fingerprints.

He was arrested and a small amount of cannabis was recovered from his bedside table.

Lawrence, 34, of Mapperley Road, Mapperley, pleaded guilty to burglary and possessing cannabis.

Caroline Bradley, prosecuting, said: "He said he was involved with two others, who he did not name. He was 'the muscle' for the job."

Judge Andrew Hamilton said prison was the only place for him. "You have an appalling record for dwelling-house burglary."

The court heard in mitigation that Lawrence had made an attempt to change his life and had got a job.
