Flee Sinful Distractions, Cleric Warns Christians

BRIEFS

THE Diocesan Bishop of Aba-Ngwa North, Rt. Rev. Nathan C.O. Kanu, has cautioned Christians against distractions such as selfishness and immorality.    Speaking during the second session of the first Synod of the Diocese of Isiala Ngwa South (Anglican Communion) with the theme: ?The Beatitudes ? A Life Builder on Christian Characters? at St. Augustine?s Church, Mkpuka, Kanu said: ?Being poor in the spirit does not mean denial of basic things of life, but readiness to forget self in the hands of God. It behooves the Church to live a life of purity, holiness and humility, surrendering to the power and sovereignty of God in Christ. When this happens in the life of an average believer, entering the Kingdom of God becomes non-negotiable.?   He called on Christians to hunger and thirst after righteousness.   The Archbishop of Aba, Most Rev. Ugochukwu Ezuoke, advised President Jonathan to make electricity supply a priority.

He said: ?There are artisans all over the nation that need power to work. It is unimaginable what kind of relief these would have if power becomes steady.?  The Bishop of the Diocese of Isiala-Ngwa South, (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Isaac C. Nwaobia, commended President Jonathan and Professor Attahiru Jega for over the successful conduct of the general.  He said: ?Good governance would ensure that corruption is minimised and views of minority are respected.?

?Christian Booksellers Are Partners In National Development?

NIGERIAN Christian Booksellers have the capacity to impact the country positively through the quality of books they place in the hands of the people, says President of the Christian Booksellers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), Mrs. Modupe Ehirim.  At a 2-day workshop for members of the association in Lagos on Tuesday, held with the theme: ?Measuring The Health Of Your Business- A key to Profitable Bookselling?, Ehirim, said the workshop was organised to ?empower our members. We want them to be able to access there businesses and know whether they are working or not.?     Also speaking at the workshop, Dr. Anthony Akpokene, Vice President, Training, of CBAN said the workshop is geared to teach participants data input needed to measure the health of their businesses.    One of the participants, Mrs. Adedoja Asaba of DaySpring Bookshop, Ikeja, who described the workshop as ?wonderful?, said: ?By the time I return, my attitude to customers will change; the way I relate with my debtors will also change.   Another, Mr. Lekan Olakanmi of Lanterna Bookshops described the course as an eye opener and promised to practice all he learnt.

Trust In God Alone Brings Success, Says Popoola

Nigerians have been called upon to give God due regard and put trust in him by applying works to faith. The Bishop of the Diocese of Offa, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt Rev. Akintunde Popoola, said this at the presentation of his charge to the third session of the forth Synod of Offa Anglican Diocese at the Cathedral Church of St Mark Offa. He said despite challenges confronting the nation, Nigerians should forge ahead. Popoola said devoted followers of God miss the mark because they lean upon their understanding which is always limited. Speaking on the theme, ?Not by Might? (Zech: 4:6), Popoola said people do rely on their abilities to undertake specific tasks. Often many come to realise they have overestimated their capabilities. He said it is not surprising therefore that some begin projects they are unable to finish while others give birth to numbers of children they cannot train adequately. He also instanced some who embark on business ventures they cannot cope with. He admonished people at such times to release themselves into the hands of God. Speaking on corruption, Popoola said that there is no way the menace can be curbed by trust in the human mind. According to him, faith must be put in God alone. The Bishop condemned the post election violence in parts of the country, calling for punitive measures to check future recurrence. He urged newly elected leaders to acknowledge that effort at building the country without God is bound to fail.
