Japanese shares rose 1.2 per cent in Thursday morning trading as investor sentiment was bolstered by an overnight rally on Wall Street.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average added 121.8 points, or 1.29 per cent, to trade at 9,544.68. The broader-based Topix index was up 8.67 points, or 1.06 per cent, at 826.41.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.31 per cent as commodity stocks rallied.
In Tokyo, on currency markets at 2 am SA time, the dollar traded at 82.03-82.04 yen, down slightly from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 82.08-10 yen.
The euro traded at 1.4068-4070 dollars, up from 1.4037-4039 dollars Wednesday, and at 115.41-43 yen, up from 115.22-26 yen. - Sapa-dpa
