Neil Entwistle's prison life

NEIL Entwistle was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

He is currently in the medium-security Old Colony Correctional Centre in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

The University of York graduate was moved to his current prison after death threats from prisoners at the maximum-security Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts.

Entwistle attracted global media attention for his efforts to avoid gang persecution from fellow inmates in Shirley.

In 2008 the Boston Herald reported how Entwistle shaved his head right down to the scalp in an attempt to join a white supremacist group which he had been promised would give him security.

However, the American newspaper quoted anonymous prison officials who told how gang leaders lampooned Entwistle, telling him to shave his head and then when he was bald admitting it was just a prank, and that his life was very much still in danger.

One prison official said he overheard a member of the supremacist gang saying: "It's a nice gesture, on your part, but we're still going to kill you."

Following this incident the decision was taken to move Entwistle because there were genuine fears for his life as he was known by prisoners as "the baby killer".

He now resides 69 miles away in the $33 million Old Colony Correctional Center.

The prison is specifically designed to deal with prisoners who may have possible mental health problems but do not need to be hospitalised.

The biggest percentage of prisoners at Old Colony are Caucasian (39 per cent), then followed by African-American inmates who make up 36 per cent.
