Bomb charge: four in court accused of planning terror

FOUR suspected terrorists from Stoke-on-Trent have appeared at the Old Bailey charged with plotting attacks on London targets in the run-up to Christmas.

They are part of a group of nine arrested following a series of dawn raids by security services on December 21.

They appeared via video link yesterday and are charged with conspiring to cause explosions likely to endanger life or damage property between November 6 and December 21.

A further charge alleges they were preparing for acts of terrorism by agreeing targets, carrying out reconnaissance, attending meetings, testing incendiary material and researching and discussing methods.

The Stoke-on-Trent defendants are Nazam Hussain, aged 25, of Grove Street, Cobridge; Usman Khan, aged 19, of Persia Walk, Tunstall; Mohibur Rahman, aged 26, of North Road, Cobridge; and Abdul Mohammed Shahjahan, aged 26, of Burmarsh Walk, Burslem.

The next court appearance is set for February 25.

Trials for the men are expected to take place in early 2012 in London.
