Bulwell Academy forges new bank link

A LEADING UK bank has forged a new link with the Bulwell Academy.

Yorkshire Bank and the academy have set up a partnership that aims to help to inspire students to become businessmen and women of the future.

Carl Ashley, senior business partner at Yorkshire Bank's Financial Solutions Centre in Nottingham, is among those pushing the plan after joining the academy's Business Advisory Board, set up when the academy opened in September 2009.

Mr Ashley said: "We believe that we have much to learn from the students and staff at the academy and this partnership is not just about us giving."

The partnership has been facilitated through Business in the Community's Business Class programme, which seeks to build strong partnerships between employers and education, particularly by establishing long-term relationships.

As part of the deal, Mr Ashley has become the senior broker of the partnership on behalf of the bank, and will be working closely with the academy to identify areas where the bank can bring additional expertise.

As well as helping students, the Bulwell Academy Business Advisory Board also offers a mentoring programme for senior teaching staff and Alison Bingham, director of business and enterprise at the Bulwell Academy, said: "Developing the financial capability of our students and their employability skills is very important to us.

"This partnership provides us with a unique opportunity to interlink two organisations to everyone's benefit, and I am confident that Carl's considerable business expertise will be tremendously beneficial to all of us at the academy."

She added: "Yorkshire Bank's involvement will bring a new dimension to the board, specifically the perspective of a large employer which is focused entirely on its customers."
