Hiding facial faults

PRETTY-FACE-28-01-11It is possible to hide facial faults without consulting the make-up artist. Here?s how to go about it.

A SMOOTH base, with the right colour and texture lays the foundation for a beautiful make-up and becomes the blank canvas on which to create your individual looks.

Once you know your skin tone, the right colour or choice of cosmetics then becomes automatic, not just enhancing your face but also harmonising with your overall appearance.

Choosing the right foundation will also help you to apply some tricks to hide facial faults and it is possible to use shading as a means of minimising facial faults.

A darker foundation makes a feature recede, while a highlight does the opposite - but don?t overdo it or you will just draw attention to what you are trying to hide. It is better to emphasize all your good points than to try to disguise something that probably only you notice.

Here are certain tricks to hide facial faults:
To slim down a wide nose - Blend a darker shade of foundation down each side of the nose, starting at the bridge and blending outwards using a wedge-shaped piece of sponge, fingertips or a soft flat brush.

To straighten a crooked nose - Apply darker foundation on the bumpy side of a crooked nose and a lighter shade on the opposite side to help balance the bump.

To shorten a long nose - Blend darker foundation around the nostrils and just under the tip.
To minimize a double chin or heavy jaw-line - Use a darker foundation to contour the jaw-line and blend into the neck. Use a lighter shade on the pad of the chin to make it more prominent.

To straighten crooked lips - Use your lip-liner pencil to balance out the shape, adjusting the line either above or below your natural lip-line.

To beautify shapeless lips - Start with a good base of foundation lightly dusted with powder and then draw in a new shape with lip-liner pencil, giving a good cupid bow and more fullness on the bottom lip. Fill in with a medium-toned lipstick.
