THE man in charge of Stoke-on-Trent City Council's beleaguered finances has announced he is leaving the authority.
Paul Simpson, director of business services, will leave at the end of next month.
His brief has included overseeing the purse strings at a time of unprecedented Government funding cuts, with the council having to find more than 30 million of savings this year. Mr Simpson, pictured, has also been responsible for legal and member services, business technology and procurement.
He said: "It has been a magnificent challenge and a privilege to serve this city. However, I have decided the time is right for me to move on and develop my career."
Paying tribute to him, council chief executive John van de Laarschot said: "Paul has made a significant contribution to the council during a time of unprecedented change. I want to thank him for his hard work and sound advice."
