In brief

NORTH STAFFS: Councillors are to have a bigger say in how a board of regeneration leaders operates.

Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) was formed after the abolition of regional development quangos.

It is made up of council chiefs and business leaders who work to promote economic growth.

Plans are being drawn up to allow councillors on Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council to scrutinise the performance of the LEP and draw on its expert advice when reviewing policies and performance.

It will allow councillors to make sure the board is focusing on priorities specific to each local authority.

Earlier this month the LEP unanimously backed Etruria Valley as the chosen site for Staffordshire's bid to bring a local enterprise zone to the region.

NEWCASTLE: A society which runs a model railway in a popular park is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The North Staffs Model Engineering Society was formed in 1936. And since then people have been meeting regularly to share and develop skills.

The society's multi-gauge railway track in Newcastle's Brampton Park offers rides to the public from this Sunday until the end of September.

ETRURIA: Teenager Daniel Smith, aged 18, of Etruria Road, Etruria, who is on bail to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court charged with robbery was remanded in custody at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court to a date to be fixed after admitting breaching the bail conditions imposed on him.

HANLEY: Forty-year-old Nicholas Cooke, of Ridgway Road, Hanley, who is due before the court on May 3 for theft was re-bailed by North Staffordshire magistrates after admitting breaching his conditions of bail on April 20 this year.

TUNSTALL: Stoke-on-Trent Lions Club is looking for businesses or charities interested in having a stall at a carnival in Tunstall Park on Sunday, July 17.
