Recycle your Christmas tree and help firefighters

NOTTS County Council's waste contractor is launching its annual Christmas "Tree-cycling" campaign for its fourth year.

Veolia Environmental Services said residents could be green by recycling used Christmas trees while helping a national charity.

It is urging them, once the festivities are over, to take their Christmas trees to any of the 14 Nottinghamshire household waste recycling centres to be recycled.

For every 50 tonnes of trees and other green waste received by the end of January, Veolia will donate 100 to the Fire Fighter's Charity,

the council chairman Councillor Tom Pettengell's charity of the year.

Veolia's Kevin Parker said: "If one of your new year's resolutions is to be greener, then our Tree-cycling campaign is a fantastic way to begin. You'll also be helping a very worthwhile charity at the same time. We hope we can raise as much money as possible for the Fire Fighter's Charity."

Councillor Pettengell said: "I'm really grateful for Veolia's support for a very deserving charity and I hope that Notts residents will do their bit to help us raise as much money as we can."
