This was confirmed by the league's executive committee (exco) in a statement after it met on Thursday.
Majavu resigned three months into his job this week after differences with the board on his powers in the appointment of key senior management positions.
“Following the meeting, the exco announced that it has mandated the PSL chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza to embark on a head hunt for a candidate to fill the vacant PSL chief executive position as a matter of urgency,” the exco said.
“Dr Khoza will then have to report back to the executive committee.”
In the interim, chief operations officer Cambridge Mokanyane will be acting as chief executive while continuing his operations and chief financial officer duties.
According to the league, Mokanyane had not made himself available for the chief executive position.
The exco said the planned month break for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations would continue despite Bafana Bafana's failure to qualify for the tournament.
“We took this decision in order to give the Afcon the respect it deserves and to ensure that there will be no counter attraction during the continental showpiece,” said Khoza.
“Clubs are advised that there should be no organised events during the tournament except training matches.
“This break will enable players to recuperate following what has been a very congested fixture.”
The exco sent a request to the SA Football Association for an urgent liaison committee meeting to discuss Baby Bafana (the national Under-23 team), who play in the final 2012 London Olympic qualifier tournament in Morocco next month.
The national Under-20 team will partake in a Cosafa Under-20
Championships tournament set for Botswana in December.
Both youth teams will want the support of the PSL regarding the availability of players for the key tournaments. – Sapa
